From November 1st to 14th, 2024, the Dunhuang Academy organized young scholars to conduct academic investigations, study and exchange activities at grotto temple ruins, museums and relevant cultural and museum institutions in Sichuan and Chongqing. The aim was to promote young scholars' understanding of the value of grotto temples, strengthen academic exchanges, and improve the levels of cultural relics protection and academic research. Researchers from the Editorial Department participated in this activity.
The investigation team successively carried out on-site study and investigation at cultural and grotto temple ruins such as the Dazu Rock Carvings, Qianfoya Grottoes in Guangyuan, Sanxingdui Museum, Bazhong Grottoes, and Anyue Rock Carvings. They also held discussion and exchange meetings at the Dazu Rock Carvings Research Institute and the Anyue Grottoes Research Institute.
Through this investigation, the young scholars from the Editorial Department have obtained a more comprehensive understanding of the historical evolution and value of the grottoes in Sichuan and Chongqing, and have gained a deeper understanding of the protection status of the grottoes in the Sichuan-Chongqing region. This provides a direction for subsequent protection and research work, as well as for soliciting and commissioning manuscripts for periodicals.
