Italy returned 56 pieces of lost cultural relics to China

On November 8th, the National Cultural Heritage Administration announced that 56 pieces of Chinese cultural relics and artworks returned by Italy have come back to the motherland. This return is a successful cooperation carried out within the framework of the bilateral agreement between China and Italy on preventing the illegal import and export of cultural relics. The batch of cultural relics were mainly unearthed in regions such as Gansu, Qinghai, and Shaanxi provinces in China. They include painted pottery of the Majiayao Culture, pottery figurines from the Han and Tang dynasties, and pottery beasts from the Yuan Dynasty, all of which possess high historical, artistic, and scientific value. Among them, the painted pottery of the Majiayao Culture from the Neolithic Age covers the Majiayao type, Banshan type, and Machang type, providing direct material evidence for the study of the origin and early development of Chinese civilization. The pottery figurines from the Han and Tang dynasties and the pottery beasts from the Yuan Dynasty serve as physical testimonies of the social stability, prosperity, openness, and inclusiveness of those times. We look forward to the return of more lost cultural relics to the motherland!
